The cultural development agency for the Isle of Wight
Creative Island is dedicated to enriching the quality of life for our community through arts and culture.
Our journey began as The Island Collection, a dynamic partnership birthed from a shared vision to amplify the cultural sector and foster collaborative ventures. Since then, our transformation into an ArtsCouncil England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) evolved into CreativeIsland, reflecting our mission to support all residents of the Isle of Wight.
At Creative Island, we act as the vital link in the cultural ecosystem of the Isle of Wight. Our reach extends across arts organisations, libraries, heritage services, and cultural education initiatives, ensuring a diverse and inclusive cultural landscape for allIslanders. Collaborating closely with local government and key stakeholders, we champion the cause of public funding for the Isle of Wight, advocating sustained growth and development of our rich cultural heritage.
As an Arts Council England NPO, Creative Island is entrusted with three pivotal strands of activity that form the cornerstone of our mission:
1. Upholding the IW Cultural Strategy andSupporting the Cultural and Heritage Sector:
Our commitment to the cultural and heritage sector on the Isle of Wight is unwavering. We uphold and champion the newly adopted IW Cultural Strategy, steering its implementation and ensuring its alignment with the evolving needs of our community.
2. Managing the IW Cultural Education Partnership(CEP):
The CEP stands as the backbone of Creative Island’s developmental journey. It has been instrumental in crafting life-enhancing programmes tailored for young Islanders. Initiatives like ‘Lift the Lid on Island Culture’ (2018-20), ‘TheCreative Biosphere’ (2021), and ‘Supporting Young Minds’ (2022-23) are testaments to our commitment to nurturing young talent and broadening horizons. The essence of this partnership lies in its structure, ensuring the creative aspirations and access to cultural opportunities for young people remain at the forefront of Creative Island’s vision.
3. Managing & delivering our talent development programme - the IW Creative Network (IWCN):
The IW Creative Network is a thriving community that stands as a testament to the Isle of Wight’s vibrant creative spirit. Designed to support and develop the Island’s creative and cultural workforce, the IWCN offers a myriad of resources, including business support, training programmes, networking events, off-island research days, and an online creative directory. Our bespoke development programmes aim to nurture and inspire individuals, as well as creative organisations, fostering resilience, and sustainability in their creative practices and businesses.
Our commitment to these three key strands of activity is unwavering. We believe in the power of collaboration and synergy, working tirelessly to ensure that they come together seamlessly, forming a cohesive and impactful cultural offering for the Isle of Wight, with creativity as our natural connection.
